McManus Inks $2 Million Contract for 2023 Season

The Washington Commanders have made a move to bolster their special teams unit, signing unrestricted free agent Brandon McManus to a one-year contract worth $2 million. McManus, a nine-year NFL veteran, is set to replace former Commanders kicker Joey Slye, who was released earlier this offseason.

McManus, 31, spent the past three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he converted 90.3% of his field goal attempts and 94.1% of his extra points. His 84.5% career field goal conversion rate ranks 13th in NFL history.

The Commanders are counting on McManus to provide stability and consistency to their kicking game. McManus has been one of the most reliable kickers in the NFL, having made at least 90% of his field goal attempts in each of the past three seasons.

With McManus on board, the Commanders' special teams unit should be a strength in 2023. McManus will team up with punter Tress Way, long snapper Gunner Olszewski, and return specialist J.D. McKissic to form one of the most formidable special teams units in the NFL.
